Hoses, fittings and line planning for central systems
Nominal diameters, prefilled hoses, hose protection and labelling. The details that decide whether a system is easy to start and easy to fault-find.
Line choices
- High-pressure grease hoses come in custom lengths with fitted ends in nominal diameters of about 6, 8 and 10 mm.
- Hoses can be supplied prefilled with grease. That avoids the long priming time and the air pockets that follow a manual fill.
- Where the environment is hard on lines (abrasion, heat, rock impact), add hose protection.
- On systems with many lines, label each line at the pump and at the point. Printed labels, tags or clips save hours when fault-finding.
Fittings
Use fittings that match the thread and pressure rating of the line. A standard kit of conical grease fittings covers most replacement needs on a plant, and one standard fitting type across the plant reduces wrong-fitting mistakes.
Starting up
- Fill and purge the system until clean grease comes out of every point, so that air is not trapped in the line.
- Record the cycle settings and the first-fill quantities.
- Check every point, not only the first and last.
Takeaway. Plan the lines like a wiring diagram: short, protected, labelled and filled before they are connected.
